Wimbledon Prize Money 2019 (mens/women single winners to pocket £2.35m each)

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has raised the prize money for the 2019 Wimbledon Championships by 11.76% to an overall prize purse of £38 million ($49.4 million USD) up from the £34 million ($44.2 million USD in 2018.

In line with the three other grand slams, Wimbledon has boosted prize money significantly for early round losers. Since 2011, the prize money for first-round losers has increased almost fourfold, from £11,500 to £45,000.

However, this idea isn’t without its downsides as in recent years Wimbledon has been plagued by a number of players withdrawing during their first-round matches, in many cases only taking to court so they still receive their prize money.

Players who go into matches this year with a pre-existing injury run the risk of being fined up to 100 per cent of their prize money if the AELTC believe they should not have taken to the court.

The prize money boosts are also good news for any British players who receive a wildcard this year, even though it’s highly unlikely any of them will make it out the first Round they’ll still be walking away with a lucrative five-figure payday which is often more than their entire career earnings.
